Nurse Refresher
Entry Requirements
Nurses must be currently licensed in the state of Indiana, with 3+ years of beside nursing experience. We look for professionals who have been out of hospital nursing at least five years, but no longer than ten years. You will also need to pass our pre-course physical with an up-to-date immunization record.
Learning Activities
- Collect data sufficient for assessment of patient needs
- Provide patient care including performing treatments
- Administer and document IV and non-IV medications
- Assist Care Team in implementing plan of care
- Document on flow sheets, Multidisciplinary Note, and other EMR systems
- Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions
- Identify responsibilities regarding diagnostic tests, procedures, treatments and medications
- Follow principles of aseptic technique
- Implement appropriate nursing interventions in routine situations
- Explain the roles and functions of the various health team members
- Discuss the legal implications of nursing practice
Completion Requirements
- Pass medication test with a score of 80% or above
- Complete of daily log and course evaluation summary
- Attend course with no more than three days of absence (three full days of absence or three clinical experiences and three class sessions)
- Administer several oral and injectable medications
- Perform some IV procedures (hang IVPB, administer IVP, program IV pump, change IV tubing, saline lock flush)
- Perform treatments (Accu-Chek, change dressing, administer tube feeding, catheter insertion)
- Document basic care, treatments and medications
- Provide basic care (bath, bed change, I&O, feed patient, VS)
- Complete physical assessment with staff RN
